What to see in Cadaqués on foot
Cadaqués keeps a protected old town paved with the rastell, the cobbling that is the village's hallmark. Dalí, Picasso and other painters made it a village of artists, and its best-known resident has a bronze statue facing the sea.
What to see
Conjunt Històric de Cadaqués
The protected old town, paved with the rastell, the stone surface that is Cadaqués's signature.
Iglesia parroquial de Santa Maria
A late Gothic and Baroque church from the 17th and 18th centuries. Its bell tower features in Dalí's paintings, and inside it holds one of the most notable Baroque altarpieces in Catalonia.
Casa Serinyana, Casa Blaua
A Modernista house from 1910-1915, with blue glazed ceramics on all its doors and windows. Through it, in 1913, a seafaring family that had grown rich in the Americas made itself noticed.
Castell de Cadaqués, Es Baluard i Casa de la Vila
Protected as a cultural asset of national interest. The town hall building sits on the remains of the village's first castle, recorded as far back as 1030.
Platja Gran
The village's main beach, with wooden boats drawn up on the sand and, behind them, the white houses of the Front Marítim.
Plaça del Doctor Trèmols
A flat square by the sea, next to Casino l'Amistat and where the streets up to the old town start. It used to be the place where each day's fish and vegetables were sold.
Casino de la Societat l'Amistat
An early-19th-century building in Neoclassical-Romantic style. Before it was the Casino de l'Amistat it was a cork-stopper workshop and, earlier still, the seat of a workers' mutual society that predated Social Security.
Castell de Sant Jaume o de les Creus
A castle on the Turó de les Creus, probably raised in the 17th century to keep watch over the sea. What survives today is a 19th-century reconstruction.
Es Portal, Portal de Mar de la Muralla
The only gate of the medieval wall still standing: a lime-washed passageway linking the beach to Carrer del Call, already locked at night in 1280.
Estàtua de Salvador Dalí
A 1972 bronze statue facing the sea, dedicated to Salvador Dalí, Cadaqués's best-known resident. It was a gift from the man who served as his secretary for years.
Museu de Cadaqués
A municipal museum whose temporary exhibitions recall Dalí, Picasso and the other painters who made Cadaqués an artists' village.
Plaça del Dr. Pont
A small through-square with a public fountain that, for generations, was the only tap within reach of many local families.
